Explore the dark alleys behind ‘Fremont Street’

Tales from Fremont StreetA murder at a wayward Fremont Street motel kicks off the interconnected graphic stories collected in the forthcoming anthology comic book Tales from Fremont Street, but lovers of both the visual art and storytelling aspects of the comic form need not worry about their safety when the writers and artists behind those tales unleash the newly pressed volume in conjunction with the Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival.

A few days before the festival, valley residents can not only pick up a copy of Tales from Fremont Street, but also meet its creators and get a look behind the scenes at the UNLV Barrick Museum on Wednesday, Nov. 2, where an opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. for “Spinning Tales from Fremont Street,” an exhibit of original art, sketches and notes from contributors such as Evan Dent, F. Andrew Taylor, Warren Wucinich, Deryl Skelton and Jska Priebe. Uncovering the process that went into the creation of these comic book tales, the opening reception will also afford patrons the opportunity to meet and hear from the artists and writers about the inspiration and process that went into creating their unique stories. The original art show will run through Jan. 15, 2012.
